Prerequisites

Prior to joining the course, students should meet the following pre-requisites:

Have a good understanding of switched Ethernet LANs and MAC addressing;
IP addressing, configuration and troubleshooting;
Practical experience in Administration and Troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows XP;
Practical experience Troubleshooting hardware drivers on Microsoft Windows 7 or later;
Experience of configuring devices such as SOHO or Enterprise-grade routers or similar appliances.

Objectives

Understand Radio Frequency (RF) technology concepts, including spread spectrum technologies, modulation, coding, Wi-Fi network planning and essential RF calculations.
Understand the fundamentals of Wi-Fi network operation, for Wi-Fi network problem analysis and troubleshooting.
Summarise the rules governing Wi-Fi WLANs, to comply with local RF regulations for the operation of Wi-Fi networks.
Understand IEEE 802.11 standards and amendments, including 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, 802.11ad (WiGig™), 802.11af (White-Fi) and 802.11ah (Wi-Fi HaLow™).
Correctly select, install, configure and support Wi-Fi Access Points, WLAN controllers, wireless bridges and WLAN antennas.
Understand 802.11 / Wi-Fi network operation in depth and troubleshoot problems such as RF coverage, multipath, hidden nodes, RF channel allocation and RF interference.
Experience state-of-the-art Wi-Fi network engineering tools from Ekahau, AirMagnet, Tamosoft, Metageek and more.
