Richard Lee Managing Director

Richard left the Army in August 2012 upon completion of his colour service. He served with the Royal Corps of Signals for 27 years seeing active service in a number of theatres. He did his resettlement training with Ubi-Tech and then joined the company as Operations Director in 2012 and he is now successfully leading the company as Managing Director.

Mike Harbon Operations Director

Mike served in the Royal Navy as a communicator and on leaving experienced the inadequacies of a resettlement process that offered training in either plumbing or car mechanics! He did the car mechanics course solely because he got taught to drive and then completed self-study courses and also attended a college course in IT and entered the world of IT and telecommunications in 1980. His career path took him from operations to technical support and then as head of technical skill development for the EMEA region of AT&T. He joined Ubi-Tech in 2014 and works closely with the armed forces students on their CVs, job searches and interview preparation.

Rob GardinerRobert Gardiner Non Executive Director
Professor of Mobile and Wireless Systems

Rob is one of the founder partners of Ubi-Tech alongside Richard Lee and Mike Harbon and has been appointed a Professor at the University of Suffolk where he is now working independently as a Professor of Mobile and Wireless Systems within the STEM Faculty. Rob was appointed by the Appointments and Promotions Board and undertakes a number of roles within his specialism. He is delighted to remain closely associated with Ubi-Tech and to continue to provide invaluable insight and knowledge on future technologies in the telecoms industry on a consultative basis and to act as our liaison into academia. He gives Ubi-Tech advice and guidance on industry training requirements and he is also our university moderator and reviews and marks all student papers before final submission to the university assessment boards.

Tim Smith Head of Training

Tim served for 22 years in the Royal Corps of Signals, gaining a wealth of experience in telecommunications from rigging antennas, instructing IT to trialling communications equipment. He completed his resettlement with Ubi-Tech and gained his Post Graduate Certificate in Wireless Communications and immediately took a job working as a Project Engineer planning and rolling out Radio Base Stations for Nokia/GTL in London. After finishing as a contractor he was approached by Ubi-Tech for a position as an instructor, a role for which he has 8 years of experience as well as holding qualifications as a coach and mentor.

Heath Manning Instructor

Heath served in the Royal Corps of Signals for 9 years and has held job roles in networking, cryptography and electronic warfare. He developed a passion for instructing whilst serving in Northern Ireland where he would travel around the country teaching TETRA Motorola equipment.

In 2013, with a view to further develop his knowledge he enrolled with Royal Holloway University London to study MSc Information Security. Keen to teach a technical subject, Heath interviewed for the position of instructor with Ubi-Tech. After interviewing he successfully attended the Post Graduate Certificate in Wireless Communications.

Adrian DaviesAdrian Davies Instructor

Adrian served over 8 years in the Army Air Corps as a signaller and qualified as a regimental signals instructor. After leaving the Army he has worked for Marconi, Cable and Wireless and Vodafone. During this time he has supported multi-vendor SDH and DWDM Networks and has been the technical prime for introducing new technology which has involved project managing upgrades and managing the technical relationships with Vendors and provided internal training as and when required.

Tony GauntTony Gaunt Instructor and Account Management

Formerly HM Forces having served with the Army Air Corps signals and wireless communications systems; with a demonstrated history of working in the professional training and coaching industry specialising in digital telecoms, IT and Optical Fibre Networks. Skilled in Management, Account Management, Contract Negotiation, Contract Management, and Project Management. Strong business development professional having worked with Siemens, Fujikura, Costain, Network Rail to name a few and many other corporate companies; Graduated from Duke of York’s Royal Military School.

Dale James Law

Dale served as a Royal Marines Commando for 9 years and saw Operational Action in Afghanistan, he has been a Close Protection and Maritime Security Officer in the Indian Ocean and the Far East. He successfully started and ran a Training Consultancy and is a Signalling and Telecoms Tester, Technician, Trainer, Fibre Optics instructor and IQA.

Maria Hall Maria Hall Operations Manager

Maria is the Ubi-Tech Office Manager and is often the first point of contact within the Ubi-Tech team. She works with the candidates enquiring about our courses to ensure they have all the relevant information and understand the process to apply for ELCAS. When they are on the course Maria is on hand for any enquiries the students have.

On a day to day basis she completes the main office tasks to ensure our courses run smoothly and efficiently. Her role includes generating and following up sales leads, representing Ubi-Tech at industry training and employment fairs, providing customer care, invoicing and finance and managing relationships with corporate customers.

Christine DedmanChristine Dedman Head of Marketing

Christine is an experienced Marketing and Communications professional with sixteen years cross sector experience spanning B2B, consumer, public and third sector markets, both in-house and agency. Christine has a relevant background in Defence communications having been marketing manager for Defence Communications Agency Western Europe and Communications Officer for SSAFA Forces Help Western Europe. Christine currently consults for the University of Wolverhampton in developing their Armed Forces Education portfolio and business programme engagement. Former roles held include; senior key account manager for the Britvic Trade PR programme (major brands such as Pepsi, J2O) and Communications Manager for the BII. Christine is an experienced major bids writer with notable success in researching and writing a bid to the Department of Health and MoD Covenant funding. Christine is spouse to a serving Army Officer and understands first hand the challenges of military life, she also founded and directs the Forces Enterprise Network in support of service families in business.
